1 & 2 Samuel traces the beginnings of kingship in Israel, introducing us to Samuel (Israel’s last Judge-leader), Saul (Israel’s 1st King), and David (Israel’s greatest King). As with most Royal stories, this is not a fairytale but a story of battle and betrayal, courage and challenge, faithfulness and frailty, capturing the totality of our humanity under God.
The kings’ rise to power is not originally God’s plan for His people who were busy doing whatever seemed right in their own eyes. Instead, kingship is God’s accomodation to the people’s desire to be like all the other nations. Join us this fall as we read of the rise and fall of Kings and are pointed to God as our One True King. Reading Schedule:
