April 19 Worship Resources

The 2nd Sunday of Easter

Picture
Trinity's purpose is to be Growing Committed Followers of Jesus.  We don't want merely to be passive consumers of worship but people whose lives are an expression of praise to our Father.

As such, this week’s worship service is not a standalone video but a series of videos for you to use as you follow through this week’s liturgy. This is an opportunity for you and your family to actively enter into worship!

The liturgy below contains plain text and bold text indicating different parts.  If you are by yourself, read both parts aloud or if there are others in your family, share the reading (you may choose one person to be the worship leader and have everyone else respond or you may simply read alternating parts).

There are videos for songs (the lyrics are either next to or below the video), the children's time, and the sermon.  The rest of the liturgy is there for you to read/participate in.

The italics in the order of worship indicate an action for you to do.

Gathering

Prepare for Worship
As you prepare for this time of worship find a time and space that will allow you to focus on God. (I encourage you to find an hour that can be devoted to uninterrupted worship.)
Perhaps, you could light a candle to mark this as a sacred time.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father, prepare me to worship you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Quiet my mind and give peace to my soul. Spirit of the living God fall fresh on me today. Amen.
Christ is Risen!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!             Revelation 5:12
Sing Together: I Know That My Redeemer Lives (LBW 352 verses 1, 2, 4, 7)
I know that my Redeemer lives!
What comfort this sweet sentence gives
He lives, he lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever-living head!

He lives triumphant from the grave;
He lives eternally to save;
He lives exalted, throned above;
He lives to rule his Church in love.

He lives to silence all my fears;
He lives to wipe away my tears;
He lives to calm my troubled heart;
He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death;
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.
Text: Samuel Medley, Tune: attr. John Hatton LBW#352 CCLI 11133666
Confession of Sin:
As you take time to confession your sin and receive Jesus' forgiveness, set your hands open in your lap as a posture of laying down your sin.
Read:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39

~Silence for reflection and self-examination~

Most merciful God,
have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone.
Uphold us by your Spirit so that that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honour and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I know that my Redeemer lives, and so I will live also.  Fill me with resurrection life and hope that declares with confidence my sin is dealt with, I am forgiven, and I have new life because my Saviour lives. Amen

Children's Time
Watch the animated Bible story for today!
Memory Verse:
Read aloud (and make up actions to help you remember!)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6
Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed
We confess our faith together as a way of reminding ourselves of the unchanging presence of God.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Sing Together: Alleluia, Alleluia, Give Thanks
Refrain:
Alleluia, alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord;
alleluia, alleluia, give praise to His name.
  1. Jesus is Lord or all the earth;
    He is the king of creation.
    Refrain.
  2. Spread the good news o’er all the earth:
    Jesus has died and has risen.
    Refrain.
  3. We have been crucified with Christ;
    now we shall live forever.
    Refrain.
  4. God has proclaim the just reward:
    life for all people, alleluia.
    Refrain.
  5. Come, let us praise the living God,
    joyfully sin to our Saviour.
    Refrain.

Word

Scripture Reading from Luke 24: 13-35
Read aloud carefully and attentively

13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, 29 but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Sending

Benediction
Speak these words of blessing over yourself and your family as a reminder that you have been sent out in the power of our living Lord

For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21

And now may the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord make His face shine upon us and be gracious to us.
May the Lord look on us with favour and give us His peace. Numbers 6:24-26
Sing Together: All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises
You lived, You died, You said in three days You would rise.
You did, You're alive.
You rule, You reign, You said You're coming back again.
I know You will and all the earth will sing Your praises.

You took, You take our sins away oh God.
You give and gave Your life away for us.
You came down, You saved us thru the cross.
Our hearts are changed because of Your great love.

You lived, You died, You said in three days You would rise.
You did, You're alive.
You rule, You reign, You said You're coming back again.
I know You will and all the earth will sing Your praises.
