April 26 Worship @ Home Resources

The 3rd Sunday of Easter
"Peace to you..."

Picture
Trinity is Growing Committed Followers of Jesus.  We don't want merely to be passive consumers of worship but people whose lives are an expression of praise to our Father.

Our service is an opportunity for you and your family to actively enter into worship!

The liturgy below contains plain text and bold text indicating different parts.  If you are by yourself, read both parts aloud or if there are others in your family, share the reading (you may choose one person to be the worship leader and have everyone else respond or you may simply read alternating parts).

There are videos for songs (the lyrics are either next to or below the video), the children's time, and the sermon.  The rest of the liturgy is there for you to read/participate in.

The italics in the order of worship indicate an action for you to do.

Gathering

Prepare for Worship

As you prepare for this time of worship find a time and space that will allow you to focus on God. (I encourage you to find an hour that can be devoted to uninterrupted worship.)

Perhaps, you could light a candle to mark this as a sacred time.

Consider:
"What keeps you awake at night?"
"What fears are holding you back?"
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Christ is Risen!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Call to Worship

Read Psalm 116:1-9 responsively
I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.
The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Lord, save me!”
The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.
For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, m
y eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.

Worship in Song

Sing Together:
Cornerstone

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' name.    Repeat

Chorus:
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm He is Lord Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil
Chorus

When he shall come with trumpet sound
Oh, may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless, stand before the throne
Chorus

Confession of Sin

We take time to acknowledge the ways we've failed to live as new creations in Christ. We hear Jesus' words of pardon and forgiveness today.

Confess responsively:
After Jesus' baptism he began to preach saying,
"Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven has come near."  Matthew 4:17

We know that because the tomb is empty, we will be raised to life eternal.
We live in repentance, hopeful in our new life.

~Silence for reflection and self-examination~

Gracious Father,
You sent Your Son Jesus to die for my sins and to rise again so that I can share eternal life with You.  I am sorry for the ways that I have not embraced the forgiveness offered on the cross and how I have not trusted in my resurrection life.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit to correct, guide, strengthen, and inspire me to a life that honours Your sacrifice and glorifies Your Holy Name.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, he declared "Peace to you." He speaks these same words over us as we confess our sins and receive again His forgiveness.

If you are worshiping with others this morning, take them by the hand, look them in the eye and say, "Jesus gives you His peace."

Worship in Song

Sing together: Good, Good Father
Oh, I've heard a thousand stories of what they think you're like.
But I've heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night.
And You tell me that You're pleased and that I'm never alone.

You're a good good Father;
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You;
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Oh, and I've seen many searching for answers far and wide.
But I know we're all searching for answers only You provide.
'Cause You know just what we need before we say a word.

You're a good good Father;
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You;
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Because You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Oh, it's love so undeniable, I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable, I, I can hardly think
As You call me deeper still, as You call me deeper still,
As You call me deeper still, into love, love, love

You're a good good Father;
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You;
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Confession of Faith in Song

We confess our common belief in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as we sing together: This I Believe
Our Father everlasting the all creating One, God Almighty.

Through Your Holy Spirit, conceiving Christ the Son, Jesus our Savior.

I believe in God our Father.  I believe in Christ the Son.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. Our God is three in one.
I believe in the resurrection, that we will rise again.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.

Our Judge and our Defender suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You

Descended into darkness You rose in glorious life
Forever seated high

I believe in God our Father.  I believe in Christ the Son.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. Our God is three in one.
I believe in the resurrection, that we will rise again.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.

I believe in You. I believe You rose again.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.
I believe in You. I believe You rose again.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.

I believe in God our Father.  I believe in Christ the Son.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. Our God is three in one.
I believe in the resurrection, that we will rise again.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.

I believe in life eternal, I believe in the virgin birth.
I believe in the saints' communion and in Your holy Church.
I believe in the resurrection when Jesus comes again.
For I believe, in the name of Jesus
For I believe, in the name of Jesus
For I believe, in the name of Jesus

Word

Scripture Reading from 1 Peter 1:17-25

Read aloud carefully and attentively
17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for
“All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

Scripture Reading from Luke 24:36-49

Read aloud carefully and attentively
36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” 37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them.
44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Sending

Benediction

Speak these words of blessing over yourself and your family as a reminder that you have been sent out in the power of our living Lord
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,
the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,
equip you with everything good that you may do His will,
working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21

And now may the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord make His face shine upon us and be gracious to us.
May the Lord look on us with favour and give us His peace. Numbers 6:24-26

Worship in Song:

Sing together: This is Amazing Grace
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger?
The King of glory, the King above all kings.

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder?
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of glory, the King above all kings.

This is amazing grace. This is unfailing love.
That You would take my place. That You would bear my cross.
You laid down Your life that I would be set free,
Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You've done for me.

Who brings our chaos back into order?
Who makes the orphans a son and daughter?
The King of glory, the King of glory.

Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of glory, the King above all kings.

This is amazing grace. This is unfailing love.
That You would take my place. That You would bear my cross.
You laid down Your life that I would be set free,
Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You've done for me.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Worthy, worthy, worthy

This is amazing grace. This is unfailing love.
That You would take my place. That You would bear my cross.
You laid down Your life that I would be set free,
Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You've done for me.
