May 3 Worship @ Home Resources

The 4th Sunday of Easter
"Commissioned: Living Boldly"

PictureThis is a mural painted by Richard Jesse Watson depicting the Spirit of God covering the world.
Trinity is Growing Committed Followers of Jesus. We don't want merely to be passive consumers of worship but people whose lives are an expression of praise to our Father.

Our service is an opportunity for you and your family to actively enter into worship!

The liturgy (order of worship) below contains responsive readings, prayers, and songs for you to read. If you are worshiping with others in your home, divide up the parts among yourselves!

There are videos for songs (the lyrics are either next to or below the video), the children's time, and the sermon. The rest of the liturgy is there for you to read/participate in.

The italics in the order of worship indicate an action for you to do.

Gathering

Prepare for Worship

As you prepare for this time of worship find a time and space that will allow you to focus on God. (I encourage you to find an hour that can be devoted to uninterrupted worship.)

Perhaps, you could light a candle to mark this as a sacred time.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Christ is Risen!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Call to Worship
Psalm 23

Watch the video, allowing yourself to soak in its images as you listen to this familiar Psalm.

This book was illustrated by Richard Jesse Watson and is used with his permission.

Worship in Song

Sing Together:
10,000 Reasons
The sun comes up it's a new day dawning,
It's time to sing Your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing when the evening comes.

Bless the Lord oh my soul, Oh my soul.
Worship His Holy name.
Sing like never before, Oh my soul.
I'll worship Your Holy name.

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord oh my soul, Oh my soul.
Worship His Holy name.
Sing like never before, Oh my soul.
I'll worship Your Holy name.

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore.

Bless the Lord oh my soul, Oh my soul.
Worship His Holy name.
Sing like never before, Oh my soul.
I'll worship Your Holy name.  Repeat

Confession of Sin and Reminder of our Forgiveness

Consider how you have lived as if the resurrection didn't happen.
How have you lived selfishly?
Pridefully?
Fearfully?
Hatefully?

Confess responsively:
"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
And he died for all, and those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

2 Corinthians  5:14-17

~Silence for reflection and self-examination~

Our Lord and Saviour,
You died on the cross for my sin, rose again for my life, and have given me Your Holy Spirit to work resurrection transformation. I am sorry for the ways that I have doubted my new life in You. I confess I have selfishly put myself before You and others. I need Your forgiveness and new life.

In light of Jesus' forgiveness and grace, He declares to you that you are a new creation. He promises to transform you into newness of life through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Speak aloud to yourself, "I am a new creation in Jesus."
or

If you are worshiping with others speak these words over them, "You are a new creation in Jesus."

Worship in Song

Sing together:
Goodness of God
I love You Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days
I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest nights
You are close like no other

I’ve known You as a father
I’ve known You as a friend

I have lived in the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now, I give You everything
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

A New Verse for a New Month!

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13

Confession of Faith

We confess our common belief in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Worship in Song
Thine is the glory, Risen, conqu'ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won!
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave-clothes where Thy body lay.
Thine is the glory, Risen, conqu'ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won!

Lo, Jesus meets thee, Risen from the tomb!
Lovingly He greets thee, scatters fear and gloom;
Let His Church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
For the Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting!
Thine is the glory, Risen, conqu'ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won!

No more we doubt Thee, Glorious Prince of life;
Life is nought without Thee; aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conqu'rors, through Thy deathless love;
Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above.
Thine is the glory, Risen, conqu'ring Son;

Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won!

Word

Scripture Reading from 1 Peter 2:19-25

Read aloud carefully and attentively
19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Scripture Reading from Mark 16:9-20

Read aloud carefully and attentively.
9 Now when Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.
12 After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

Benediction

Speak these words of blessing over yourself and your family as a reminder that you have been sent out in the power of our living Lord
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.
Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58

And now may the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord make His face shine upon us and be gracious to us.
May the Lord look on us with favour and give us His peace. Numbers 6:24-26

Worship in Song:

Sing together: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation!
Let all who hear, now to His temple draw near,
Joining in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things is wondrously reigning
and, as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining.
Have you not seen all that is needful has been
sent by His gracious ordaining?

Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you;
Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with his love he befriend you.

Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath, come now with praises before Him!
Let the amen sound from his people again.
Gladly forever adore Him!
